Happy Valentine’s Day to all!!

A smiley hello from your friends and family at Bangkok Dental Spa. Spreading love and joy is a major part of this special day. I still remember putting heart stickers on all my favorite persons just to show my love and affection for them on the day. That is how kids in Thailand celebrate Valentine’s. I am sure there are varieties of ways to celebrate and I look forward to hearing back from you on how you share yours, but for now, let’s just start with how I celebrate mine.

It was a Sunday morning as I gathered my family up and headed out to Banka, a small and rural town in Ratchaburi province. About three hours after, we were greeted by an old patient of mine whom I have kept contact with over the years. He is now working as a volunteer English teacher at a school there The school is situated in a rural part of town where public transportation does not exist. Therefore, there is a major need for some kind of transportation that can help them avoid walking, or running in some cases, the distance. Students were often late to class which cut into their educational time. Thus, began the project to put 20 bicycles to be shared among students and community members around the school.

I can feel the excitement of the village kids as they ran to the football field to help unload and line-up the bicycles from the truck that followed us from Bangkok. As I watched my daughter, Tata, carefully helped my father got into his wheelchair, I noticed something that had been missing for years…a smile on my father’s face. I couldn’t help but walked over to where they were and gave them hugs and pecks on their cheeks. This is what “love” means to me. To spend quality time with my family. To give so I can fully enjoy what I have received. To share so I can appreciate the value of what I have.

The success of Bangkok Dental Spa remains largely on the support of our friends from all around the world. The contribution made at Banka School was made in the names of Bangkok Dental Spa, and more importantly, your name. The smiles on the kids face as they peddled the bicycles around needs no explanation…just know that together, we have given the people at Banka a very Happy Valentine’s Day.
